This lens is all about the wonders that are waiting for you in the Caribbean range of British Virgin Islands. The aim is to excite you in to reading right the way through! The lens revolves around a trip I made personally a few years ago. It hi lights the parts of my time spent on the islands, which I most enjoyed. As a sailor you will no doubt relish the prospect of planning your own chartering vacation.
You will fall in love with these islands - here is why:
White sandy beaches? Rum cocktails? Turquoise waters? The delights of BVI yacht charters are yours!
Blessed by nature, this series of islands offer a unique and often unspoilt paradise. Whether you want a romantic retreat, or a voyage of discovery with the whole family,BVI sailing vacations are the perfect recipe!
But that's only the beginning! Explore the delights of Bitter End Yacht club - look out for the infamous cocktail bar. Perched on stilts, like the ubiquitous pelicans, the bar waits patently for it's next catch!
The steps leading up to the bar are steep! But even steeper after a couple of "dark and stormys "!
Experience authentic Caribbean cuisine when visiting Jost Van Dyke. There is a terrific cafe, restaurant right on the water's edge. The thatched roof offers rustic charm as you sift sand threw your toes, waiting for your delicious orders to arrive.
The fabled baths found at Virgin Gorda can be visited as part of your Virgin Gorda charter. The baths have been formed by volcanic activity in the region many years ago. Over time the sea has transformed the coasline into a dramatic landscape.
Exploring the caves and walk ways is fun. The paths are easy to follow, just look out for the rope hand rails along the way. Keep your eyes pealed for the glorious fauna and flora on route too! Just bare in mind that some of the paths closest to the beach are affected by the tide! This is particularly true if you decide to visit the caves!
Take a peak at the chartIf your in need of an experience second to none, the island of Anegorda is a must! Just reaching the island is an achievement!
Here's why:
You must navigate your charter boat through the thick coral reefs that surround the island. Practiced hands give the advice of having someone on foredeck with the boat pole as a depth indicator, or fend off the coral if necessary! Anchor up as close as you can to beach and then take to your landing craft!
The island is magnificent! Almost completely uninhabited. The only place to get food on the island is evocatively named:
Cow Wreck Beach Bar and Grill - you need to raise them on channel 16 of your VHF before arriving, giving your hosts time to open up and prepare your food. You'll be served the best crab and lobster you shall ever taste! If you host offers to play darts, then bring your "A" game as the penalty for loosing is costly!
All in all, you need a couple of weeks to really get to grips with the islands. Once you slip into BVI time, the lifestyle and ambiance is intoxicating!
